Netflix has released its third installment in the Indian Predator docu-series, and this time they came up with the story of Akku Yadav. Back in 2004, an angry mob of women allegedly lynched the monster named Akku Yadav, who had terrorised them for several years. This happened in broad daylight inside the courtroom itself. The monster named Akku Yadav had terrorised the people of Nagpur’s Kasturba Nagar , he killed mercilessly and allegedly raped countless women of his locality without ever facing the consequences for his unholy deeds. They were living in terror unleashed by one man named Akku Yadav, who had made their life a living hell. For over a decade , before he was brutally stabbed as many as 70 times inside a courtroom. The police turned a blind eye for his crimes and he served a ridiculous amount of jail time for them. These short jail stays only accelerated his resolve to commit more cruel crimes and literally get away with the murders.
Writer-director Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni leads with the most shocking event of this true story and then takes us into the genesis of Akku Yadav’s corrupt life. With many eyewitness accounts from his friends, lawyers and victims, he successfully manages to recreate Yadav’s terror and unpredictable actions. There are some bone-chilling moments that stand out for the way they have been shot. It’s sensitive, thrilling and disturbing all at the same time. Leaves a lasting impact on the mind of viewers. Shows the struggles of those living in the slums who where targeted by a predator. I found it moving, listening/heating the interviews with this affected by one man and his gangs attacks.
The makers took out such a sensitive subject and made people informed about such horrifying incidents. In comparison to the other two seasons , this third season is easily the best in the Indian Predator series. The writing team successfully made the best use of this terrific incident. The narrative sends chills down the spine with its gripping screenplay and storytelling for most of the time. The show also talks about the possible collapse of social order if people themselves take the law into their hands.
Actor Happy Kalizpuria played the role of hardcore criminal Akku Yadav, he was tremendously good with the role. His body language, mannerisms, and looks are spot-on and it significantly impacted the series. Actress Lajari Kale played the crucial role of Usha Madhukar, who incites confidence among the slum people, and she did good with her job. The scene where she threatens Akku Yadav and his gang with a gas cylinder give viewers goosebumps.
This documentary really portrays what life is like, living in that environment. Also how the police were failing in handling complaints and safe guarding the victims. I felt angry watching it, realising the depth of poverty, corruption and fear demonstrated on these poor peoples lives. A well done documentary which really educated on not only true crime, but cultural and political impacts.
