The holy Maa Kamakhya Temple is situated in the city of Guwahati, Assam. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in India and is dedicated to the revered Mother Goddess Kamakhya. This ancient temple holds great significance and is considered the oldest among the 51 Shakti Peethas in the world.
Perched atop the Nilachal Hills in the western part of Guwahati, the Kamakhya Temple overlooks the majestic River Brahmaputra. It serves as the main temple within a complex that houses individual temples dedicated to the ten Mahavidyas: Kali, Tara, Sodashi, Bhuvaneshwari, Bhairavi, Chhinnamasta, Dhumavati, Bagalamukhi, Matangi, and Kamala. While Tripurasundari, Matangi, and Kamala reside within the main temple, the remaining seven deities have their own separate temples.
The Kamakhya Temple holds immense significance for Hindu devotees, particularly for those who practice Tantra. It is a revered pilgrimage site that attracts worshippers from all over.The Kamakhya Temple is encircled by numerous temples devoted to various deities such as Bhuvaneshwari, Kali, Tara, Chinnamasta, Bagala, Bhairavi, Dhoomavati, Matangi, and Kamala. These temples, along with the Kamakhya Temple, are collectively referred to as the Dasamahavidya. Additionally, the Nilachal Hill houses five Shiva Temples named Kameshwar, Siddheshwar, Amratokeshwar, Aghor, and Kautilinga.
