SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME

Spider-Man: No Way Home, released in December 2021, starring Tom Holland as the titular superhero, has brought back moviegoers to multiplexes like no other movie has been able to in post pandemic times. Since the day of its theatrical release, it has been taking the box office by storm and is still continuing to rocket up the box office charts, even as the ever-increasing threat of fast spreading Omicron variant has pushed nearly all new theatrical releases.

The new Spider-man movie is now the eighth highest-grossing movie of all time, with a worldwide total of just under $1.54 billion (about ₹11,419 crores). The unprecedented success of this movie (as compared to the earlier Spider-man movies) is attributable to a large number of factors. Firstly, the movie boasts of a stellar star cast with the likes of Tom Holland and Benedict Cumberbatch reprising their respective roles of Spider-man and Dr. Stephen Strange from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Secondly, the movie is backed by a powerful storyline, impeccable performances and incredible visual effects. Thirdly, the movie contains cameos from many popular characters of earlier Spider-man movies like Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker / Spider-Man, Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn / Green Goblin, Alfred Molina as Otto Octavius / Doctor Octopus, Thomas Haden Church as Flint Marko / Sandman, Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors / Lizard, and Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon / Electro.

But what caught the frenzy of Spidey fans was the return of OG Tobey Maguire as “friendly neighborhood Spider-Man”. In a nutshell, the movie turned out to be the biggest cinematic treat from Marvel Studios (after Avengers Endgame) as it took the people down the memory lane.
