Esports as a career option?

I liked playing video games as a child. A part of my 'Gamer' emerged during the lockdown period when I Installed many new games which took me a day to get used to with its function and hardly 3 hours to get addicted. My brother and me got so indulged into the gaming world that we devoted the  first 5-6 months of the lockdown period to Esports. I bet this was a common trend among many youngsters.

Esports made us accessible to people all around the world with the same gaming enthusiasm. It cultivated as a hobby and took turn into a passion for some. Talking about passion , can we accept gaming as a career option in one go ? I will leave the question to my readers. Once,  I happened to watch a show on MTV called Esports Mania which gave me an insight into the field and its impact upon the masses. It's justifications of being or not being a career option solely depends upon the person justifying.

" Esports is a sport recognised by the International Olympic Committee and Olympic Council of Asia" once stated Lokesh Suji, the esports Federation of Indian Director in one of his interviews.  Esports continues to be a proper career option around the world, but in India it still lacks that acceptability. ESports games like Fortnite or Counter strike, FIFA, Dota needs skill and immense practice to excel. According to Suji , India has the capacity to reach commendable heights in this form as India has approximately 300million Esports enthusiasts. But the primary barrier is what we define as 'Gaming'. Most people still gaming as something one needs to do in leisure time. People often compare these high tech games with teen patti, solitude etc. Our society often hesitates to accept a new career option over the traditional ones. On that note such a new western concept will obviously face challenges.

Surprisingly esports have reached appreciable heights within a short span of time. The accelerating factor of esports is mobile gaming. Live streaming has added to its popularity among the masses. According to a gaming survey done in 2018, a report from Newzoo , a market analytics company estimated that around 380 million people all over the globe will watch esports in 2018. In 2020, the same report estimated that Global Games Market will generate revenues of $159.3 billions in 2020.

Ankit 'V3nom' Panth is one of the most popular gaming figure in India took the game of Counter strike to a next level. In the year 2019 he got signed as the brand ambassador of Intel and was also signed by Red Bull as India's first redbull athlete in gaming. Other than that team 'SOUL' who took India to international level in mobile game like PubG has inspired many techies. These people set examples of how one can turn any hobby to a life changing profession just with a undefeatable spirit and devotion.

Feminism in the 21st century

It happens every month, another gruesome story of violence against women, media provides extensive coverage to it, civil bodies raise an outcry and then it dies down, almost a natural death, screaming and writhing in oblivion.

It began in the year 2012, the fourth wave of feminism which mainly highlighted the issues of sexual harassment cases, the various rape cases, acid victim-survivors, body shaming and many more.

How can we forget the 2012 rape incident which took place in India, one of the most horrifying cases that shook  the soul of  entire India?

Rape culture has become so common in India that every day at least we can hear two-three girls have come across such a hideous act.

Many students union, protesters came to demand justice for the girl and finally in the year 2020 the four rapists were hanged to death.

At the international level, the women rights movement take place, like the Aurat March in Pakistan and the more significant one was the Me Too movement which was launched in the year 2006 in the United States to assist the survival of sexual violence and females of colour. This gained huge momentum during that period. Victims around the world started sharing their stories about how they have survived abuse, harassment in the workplace as well as in the household.

The fourth wave of feminism is mainly concerned with intersectionality and the use of the internet. Jude Kelly who is the founder of the women of the world(WOW) said in a speech, “WOW is intersectional and intergenerational and must remain so.”

In Libya, HERA is an organisation to create sports spaces for girls to encourage reconciliation, healing and conflict resolution.

But in the end, I would like to raise a question that even if we come across so many hurdles and crossed so many paths, are the sexual violence cases, the system of patriarchy, the rape cases which we can hear on daily basis decreasing by any chance?

Yes, indeed, women can now come out and talk about their issues openly which is a positive side but are there really any decline in the nature or frequency of violence? The answer is certainly a ‘no’.

Myntra logo controversy! Forge or assertive?

Myntra logo controversy! Forge or assertive?

Naaz Patel, a Mumbai based activist who made a complaint last December in association with Avesta Foundation NGO about the e-commerce brand Myntra's logo that she closely observed and found obscenity, regarding it as an offensive nature for women.

According to Naaz, the logo is offensive because it shows a position of a woman lying with her legs wide apart implying as it is secretly showing the sexual privacy of a woman. After the complaint the Myntra logo with capital letter ‘M’ is officially termed as offensive towards women by the Cyber Crime Department. Rashmi Karandikar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crime) told PTI that a complaint had approached the BKC Cyber Crime Police Station in that matter. As a consequence to the controversy, Myntra revised their logo on all their digital assets as well as on all packaging material by bearing lakhs and crores of rupees and laying their time and effort.

The issue shocked people as no one ever saw the logo with that view. It is shameful that there are myriad of things that can be fought for but this is what was chosen over setting the priorities discarding real issues and we as a nation are showing signs of intolerance by perceiving the logo with a negative connotation and getting offended out of it. It is such a disgrace that in the last couple of days it has been seen that groping a minor without skin to skin contact isn't a sexual assault, as defined by the Bombay High Court under the POSCO act, but a mere logo can be too sexual and obscene. I personally believe that, activists can set their priorities right, on real problems that genuinely matter to women like dowry, domestic violence, gender inequality, rapes, woman trafficking, child marriage, malnutrition, female infanticide among other things rather than on a company's logo that is unharming to anyone in this world.

If we were to put every logo under scanner, then any logo will be offensive to someone. How many logos are we going to change? When there are lakhs of cyber crime happening everyday in this country. According to National Crime Records Bureau data in 2018, 6,030 cyber crimes were registered by women. "In India 71 crore people are using the Internet, out of which, 25 crore are women. She said 80% of people are falling prey to cyber crimes and 63% of people don’t know where to lodge complaints on cyber crimes." Hence, focusing on petty issues is really a waste of resource, time and energy.

Report card on :Pareeksha – the Final Test

Director- Prakash Jha Cast- Adil Hussain, Sanjay Suri, Priyanka Bose, Subham Jha

“Bahot accha school hain madam. Sarkari school me madam kuch mahi hoga iska.Isko narak se nilkal lijie na madam.”

Buchi Paswan( Adil Hussain) the rickshaw puller requests the principal of Sapphire International to give an opportunity to Bulbul as he believes that English education in a CBSE is the best option for his extremely talented son Bulbul ( Shubham Jha) to escape from poverty. The principal of Saphire makes it possible for Bulbul for admission by having an interview with him. But in school, Bulbul is humiliated for not being able to speak English fluently and dreaming so high even though he belongs to a shanty town of Ranchi.

Bulbul’s mother Radhika Rane (Priyanka Bose), who works overtime in the steal factory to fulfill the needs of the family, makes him realize that the outside world is completely different and new one, where no one is waiting for him to welcome with flowers. He has to find his own way and prepares himself to compete with the rest.

However, Buchi is struggling with the never ending financial demands of all private schools; for trying to fulfill all the demands he gets arrested and sent to jail for doing illegal work and theft.

The story becomes more interesting by the entry of Sanjay Suri’s an IPS officer, who  helps the children of Ambedkar Colony on their studies and comforts  Bulbul from feeling disheartened, also encouraging him to study hard for his boards.

Now, coming to the performance of the actor, everyone has done splendid job. Adil Hussain, Sanjay Suri, Priyanka Bose and Subham Jha- all of them imprints us with their acting, also gives their full effort to sentient the characters. Having said all that, “Pareeksha – the Final Test” is a must watch film that teaches you to not give up, also poverty can’t be a barrier every time while chasing a dream if we are in safe hands.

A peek into 'Paatal Lok'

While the streets are devoid of any traffic, it seems the Web and Digital world taken it all. Web entertainment and digital entertainment is on its peak ansbhas very stealthily replaced television. The total revenue of the global entertainment reached by 2.6trillions and by 2023 , digital revenue will be 60% of the total revenue. The OTT viewers have increased magnanimously during the lockdown period. Covid 19 has divested the media industry T.V. and film industry but it has boosted digital platforms.

During this period I watched one of the  popular Web Series of 2020, Paatal Lok.

Paatal Lok is an Indian Hindi-language crime thriller web television series which was aired on Amazon Prime video on 15th May, 2020. Produced by Clean Slate Films, it featured Jaideep AhlawatGul PanagNeeraj KabiSwastika MukherjeeIshwak Singh, and Abhishek Banerjee based on Tarun Tejpal's 2010 novel,  The Story of My Assassins. It is a investigative thriller police- based web series on the concept of Heaven, Earth and Hell, where in hell all types of dangerous crimes take place.

“ Yeh jo dunia hai, yeh ek nahi tin dunia hai. Sabse upar Swarg lok , usme devta rehte hai. Beech main Dharti lok, jisme admi rehte hai aur sabse niche Paatal Lok, jisme keede rehte hai.” This is the opening dylok of Paatal lok by Hathiram Choudhury( Jaideep Ahlawat), who leads the viewers to meet to those keede, the law breakers. The series is all about an inspector Hathiram Choudhury who is out find the mystery behind the failed murder case of top journalist Sanjeev Mehta played by Neeraj Kabi. DCP Bhagat (Vipin Sharma) and his team arrest four criminals related to the case Top Singh ( Jagjeet Sandhu) , a lower caste man from Punjab village; Kabir M (Aasif Khan),  a Muslim from Chandni Chowk, Mary Lyngdoh or “Cheeni” (Mairembam Ronaldo Singh), a transwoman; and Vishal Tyagi (Abhishek Banerjee), a serial killer from Bundelkhand. Since they were caught in outer Jamuna Paar; Haathi’s area of work so he is given the case which is also joined by Imran Ansari ( Ishwak Singh), a young cop aspiring to be an IAS Officer, but no matter how good he is, his last name follows him everywhere and profile him as a Muslim. While investigating, Hathiram discovers all the backstories of the four perpetrators. How Top Singh was bullied because of his caste, ended by attempting murders of his harasser or Tyagi who has murdered Forty Five people but never get caught. The Kabir  M ,the Muslim thief, whose brothers were killed during Ram Mandir agitation and finely the transgender orphan Chini, who as a child experienced repeated rapes and brutalities. The extra martial affair between Sanjeev and his colleague Saka ( Niharika Lyra Dutt) many years junior to him, due to the discomforting edge she exposed his latent hypocrisies. While introducing to the dark scenario of the underworld, the show is astutely political. In the end Hathiram tells Sanjeev that the only reason Sanjeev is involved in the entire case was because he is a high profile enough to get attention. The real target wasn’t Sanjeev, but Tyagi himself. As the whole story is involved with contesting election between Gwala and Bajpayee. As Gwala cam hire Tyagi to kill Bajpayee, the only way to do this isto have Tyagi framed intob crime.

All the characters have justified their role in Patal Lok. Playing a role of tireless cop; Jaideep Ahlawat finally finds a purpose to prove himself. He is completely fitted in his character. Neeraj Kabi as Sanjeev Mehta; a journalist  who is torn between his family life and trying to save his career; also equally impressive. Abhishek Banerjee as Vishal or Hathoda Tyagu, is surprising package. Showing the two sides of a character; who has murdered people is also the same character whose eyes light up whenever he sees a stray dog. Swastika Mukherjee as Sanjeev’s wife Dolly having anxiety attack or Gul Panag is a delight to see on screen as the wife of Hathiram. Also Vipin Sharma, Jagjeet Sandhu, Niharika Lyra Dutt, Asif Khan all play their parts wonderfully.

As the story proceeds from one chapter to another, the audience slowly witness the existing of three worlds.  If our life is in swarg lok, we will find a known in Neeraj Kabi and Swastika Mukherjee. If we are a resident of dharti lok, Gul Panag and Jaideep Ahlawat's middle-class home, their tussles with their teenage son and the brother-in-law will appear familiar. In Paatal Lok, we have the dreaded murderer like Vishal Tyagi, Top Singh etc.

“ This system looks completely rotten outside, but once you spend some time in it, you will realize that its a well  oiled machinery, every part knows its job well; and the one that doesn’t simply get replaced.” – The line is delivered by DCP Bhagat, to Hathiram Choudhury   while making him understand how actually our whole system works. It is one of the best layered series so far , great writing, direction, cinematography, superb performances by all the characters.

A Trip to Rajasthan

Some moments have footprint that are too memorable and capture the whole of one's life, Thinking about the trip to Rajasthan fills my heart with sweet memories. A place having a historical background is called a place of importance.People generally feel a keen desire to visit such places for learning about the places and the past events and legends relating to do it . Historical knowledge of person becomes more distinct from such visits.

I found this golden chance from my college.I have a huge team. The total students of our team was 14 and the best part was that we belong to different departments and we didn't even know each other before planning the trip. But the bond that grown between us was magical. The name of our guide was Aparna Nath ma'am and Sudip Nath sir.

We were decided to go first Delhi and next to Rajasthan. We started our journey in 9th of January 2019 from Guwahati railway station (Paltan bazaar). We all came to Guwahati railway station and the name of our train was Purvatar S Kranti. Thus we started our journey to Rajasthan. On 11 January 2019 we reached Rajasthan.

Rajasthan is the largest state in India located in North Western side of the country. It is an important tourist destination in India. Rajasthan is also known for its rich cultural heritage and it's royel history. In a palaces and forts are remainders of the many kingdoms that historically vied for the region.

First destination of our trip was Pushkar lake. Pushkar is a sacred lake of the Hindus. The Hindu scriptures described it as "Tritha -Raj"- The king of pilgrimage sites related to a water body and relate it to mythology of the creator god Brahma, Whose most prominent Temple stands in Pushkar.Secondly we visited Brahma temple. Brahma is a Hindu temple, which is situated at Pushkar near the Pushkar lake. In the evening we visited the famous Ajmer Sarif Sarah. It is believed that a person who prays with a pure heart  at Jamie Sharif Sarah gets all his or her wishes fulfilled.

The next morning we moved to the first destination for the day and it was Jodhpur, which is also know as blue city. At first we visited Has want Thada. It was build by Maharaja Sarar Sing of Jodhpur. Secondly we visited Umaid Bhawan , located in Jodhpur. It is one of the largest private residences . The palace has 347 rooms and is the principle residence of the former Jodhpur royal family.A part of the palace is a museum. Than we moved our last destination for the day, the Mehrangarh fort, located in Jodhpur. It is one of the largest fort in India. Build it around 1460 by Rao Joshua, the Rort is situated 410 feet (125m) above the city and is enclosed by imposing thick walls.

Our last destination of the trip was Jaipur. Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan. City palace was our first destination in the city. It was very beautiful. Secondly we visited Hawa mahal, which is also know as palace of winds "or " palace of Breeze . It is constructed of red and pink sandstone. It structure was build in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Sing . Than we moved the last destination for the day,the Hall Naval(water palace). It is a palace in the middle of the Man Sagar lake in Jaipur city.

On 14th of January 2019 we got into our return train in Jaipur railway station and we reached Assam on 16th of January 2019. It was an amazing and great experience. It was very glad to have visited those places. The natural beauty of the places charmed me much. The memory of this visit will remain in my heart for ever.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH YOGA

Yoga is a great way to work on our flexibility and strength. Just about everyone can do it. Some types of yoga are about relaxation. In others, you move more. Most types focus on learning poses, called Asanas. They also usually include attention to breathing. Today it is practiced in various forms around the world and continues to grow in popularity.

I as a child was very much into physical activities and sports.  I had the opportunity to attend a few yoga classes. There was a local community club in our area and every Sunday yoga sessions were held there. Yoga had recently become popular then because of the massive emergence of Yoga Guru (read entrepreneur) Baba Ramdev with his Patanjali Yoga. This was the year 2001.

I had faded memories of attending the yoga sessions amongst the huge number of people who attended every Sunday. There were two gurus who came from a nearby Asharam and I discreetly remember the lady who was very graceful and kind to her students (read yogis). I use to go to the club with my brother and mother and had fun.

This went on for a while but gradually the people attending those sessions started decreasing. Maybe that’s how things are. Everything loses its shine with time. People like to relax and layback on lazy Sundays and generally don’t like to spend it on (unnecessary) activities like Yoga. After all we don’t want to miss the Assamese Film in our favorite news channel, do we?

I remember those days and now realize the benefits of yoga, now that I have learned about its benefits. Recognizing its universal appeal, on 11 December 2014, the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131. The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga. It made me really happy as I too have my birthday on the same day. I don’t practice yoga every day but try to attend sessions whenever possible.

HISTORY OF YOGA
Yoga is a mind and body practice with a 5,000-year history in ancient Indian philosophy. Various styles of yoga combine physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation or relaxation.
The "Yoga Sutra," a 2,000-year-old piece on yogic philosophy by the Indian sage Patanjali, is a guidebook on how to master the mind, control the emotions, and grow spiritually. The Yoga Sutra is the earliest written record of yoga and one of the oldest texts in existence and provides the framework for all modern yoga.
FORMS OF YOGA
In more recent years, it has become popular as a form of physical exercise based upon poses that promote improved control of the mind and body and enhance well-being. There are several different types of yoga and many disciplines within the practice.

There are many simple yoga positions that can be easily practiced which are very much helpful to maintain a healthy body. Some of them are Shava Asana or the Corpse pose, Bjungasana or the Cobra pose, Adho Mukha Svanasana, Balasana or the Child pose and the Uttanasana or the forward bending pose.

Yoga is quintessentially a necessity of the present human being. With all the modern day work stress and unhealthy food habits added with the pollution of city life the body needs its nourishment. Yoga helps in rejuvenating the body, mind and soul and thereby gives you the strength to cope up with the daily life.
