Jatinga Birds Concern

Birds are one of the most fascinating living organism of nature. Birds are  part of the environment. Birds live and breed in most terrestrial habitats all along the seven continents.

Many birds species migrate to take advantages of global differences of seasonal temperature, therefore optimizing availability of food sources and breeding habitats. Thus there are several migratory birds visiting Assam in every year.

In Assam under the district of Dima-Hasao namely JATINGA, a scenic place of beauty is not only known for its rolling mountains and picturesque vistas but also for one bizarre occurrence during Monsoon.

Jatinga and birds, the two words are correlated. Some people articulate that there is a mystery about bird's suicide at Jatinga's small village stretching 1.5 km area which raises the curiosity of everyone. Actually the birds, in a disillusioned state, get attracted to street lights and fly towards them. Most of the times they get hurt in this process which leads to their descend, some birds die on the spot while others are grievously injured. These birds are mostly migratory birds Viz kingfishers, Black Bitterns, Tiger Bitterns and Pond Herons .

This peculiar phenomenon has converted the small place of Assam to a renowned tourist spot in some of years. Since 2010 due to this activity, the state Government organizes Jatinga Festival  every year.

Moreover it should worth mentioning that now a days there is a great threat not only to birds but all species due to reckless human activity.

Under these circumstances everyone should be aware of protecting living organism so that the future generations do not live in an empty world. Conservation groups should work harder to protect the lives of wild animals and resort to passing laws that preserve and restores bird and wildlife habitat.
